Programs & Services

SSAO provides stroke survivors, their families, caregivers and professionals with a wide variety of support services, education and other programs. As well, SSAO has connections to many Ottawa and surrounding area stroke supports. For more information call our Stroke Warm Line.   • SSAO Stroke Warm Line is an answering service to assist families in need or to inquire further about any of our programs and services. Call 613.237.0650
  • Connections is an integrated education and support program for those new to stroke, those who are seeking a support community, and for those who's experience with stroke now are supporting others as peer volunteers
  • Living With Stroke Self Management Program is six weeks to a better life with stroke - take control of your chronic condition, learn coping strategies to deal with your condition, understand treatment options, dealing with communication and cognitive challenges, share experiences with others with stroke. Learn to work in partnership with your health care team.
  • Monthly Members Meeting provides stroke survivors and their families with education, information, member support and social events. We meet the second Thursday of each month at noon
  • Monthly Newsletter provides SSAO members with the latest news related to stroke and SSAO programs and events (Sample Newsletter - November/December 2011 Issue)
  • Recreational & Social Events SSAO hosts a monthly Social Supper the first Wednesday of each month, our Monthly Drop In, Holiday socials, annual BBQ, just to name a few of our recreational and social events.   • Education SSAO provides education and information for survivors, families, carepartners, professionals, those affected by a chronic condition through our education series, annual Stroke Recovery Conference, information series, newsletter and events
  • Connections Peer Support provides stroke survivors, families and carepartners with individual programs that range from simply answering questions and providing information, to providing referrals to health care or community resources, to assisting in community reengagement and offers peer
    support meetings

  • Connections Carepartners Support provides carepartners, family members, friends or professionals with training and support specific to stroke and chronic disease management
  • Connections Chronic Condition Management provides education and support for those affected by any type of chronic condition
  • Connections Physicians & Pharmacists provides medical professionals with information, research and community connections to support their patients' needs
